Virginia Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education

Virginia SARE

Since 1988, the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program has helped advance farming systems that are profitable, environmentally sound and good for communities through a nationwide research and education grants program.  The program is part of USDA's Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service, is managed in partnership with regional land grant hosts, and funds projects and conducts outreach designed to improve agricultural systems.

Virginia SARE is working to strengthen our statewide program by providing this website as a common source of sustainable agriculture information.  By working together and improving communication, Virginia SARE will achieve its program goals . . .

  • To create and maintain a leadership team that is a model of diversity, systems thinking, and group creativity and that fosters partnerships to facilitate the personal and professional development of agricultural professionals

  • To provide sustainable agriculture educational programs

  • To foster networking and joint training activities among individuals, private and public organizations, and intrastate and interstate regions

  • To create an evaluation and communications procedure to provide adequate feedback on the effectiveness of the programs so that appropriate modifications can be made

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
